Transformation Drawing

Transformation Drawing Artist Statement:      The challenge was to take a single, large piece of paper and transform the surface at least 90% over the course of 6 weeks. I began by simply putting a ground on the paper, and had no intended outcome other than to cover the surface or drastically change it each week. I am always trying to find ways to take standard things- such as a piece of paper- and make it 3-dimensional. I opted for the second week to keep a similar shape, but alter the color pallet. After I was relatively happy with the outcome of the second week, it was then decided to make it sculptural- I cut half of the paper into long strips, while maintaining the second half to present it as a 'wind chime'. After that, I determined to project a complete overhaul of the piece. I covered it in burlap, masked the remainder of the color with strips of masking tape, and spray painted it black.
